Song introductions, lyrics and analyses

1. See It All

INTRODUCTION:
I was goofing off on my piano, started figuring out a song and I asked my boyfriend “Should I write a song about becoming famous, or about seeing the world?” and he said “Seeing the world, duh.” and so See It All was born. I'm really lucky to be a musician that travels. I've always dreamt of seeing the world, and music has opened a lot of doors, but I will ALWAYS want to see more.

LYRICS:

Verse 1: Blue skies all day. Nothing but sunshine for miles.
Wanna fly away, gonna see world, gonna make it…

2. Let Me Be

INTRODUCTION:
I have been known, maybe a few times, as a heartbreaker. I don’t MEAN to break hearts, and I definitely don’t enjoy it, but I will say... It does make for some really great songwriting inspiration. I wouldn’t have half the songs I’ve written if it weren’t for a few crazy ex boyfriends along the way.

LYRICS:

Verse 1: Gotta, gotta get my shit together, I need a little space,
To keep myself from falling, falling from grace.
You may not understand why I wanna go,
But what happens when you’re gone…

3. I Am

INTRODUCTION:

I love this song. For a few different reasons - first of all, it’s an empowering song. Everyone should feel as big as the ocean waves or as tall as the mountains. ALWAYS be as strong as saying goodbye. Secondly, I love singing it. It's a very emotional song, and it's easy to get lost in the music. I love the powerful build up in the bridge, and I love the quiet chorus right afterwards. Strength comes in all forms, and I love showing it in this song. Finally, when I started writing the song, I…

4. I Don't Want to (Fall in Love)

INTRODUCTION:
When I first wrote this song, I didn’t play it at any shows. I thought people wouldn’t want to hear it, because it wasn’t typical "pop". On a whim, I performed it at a small show, and much to my surprise, everyone loved it. Screw what’s “normal”!

LYRICS:

Verse 1: I can’t get rid of this feeling.
My head is reeling.
I try to get you off my mind.
I close my eyes, but you’re all I can find.

CHORUS: I don’t want to fall in love,
And I’m not ready to give up.
Too much to do while I’m on my own.
Too…

5. The Cure

INTRODUCTION:
I grew up listening to rock and roll (thanks to my big brother). So as a little girl with a piano, I was never about the “coffeehouse” stereotype of slow ballads and a lullaby voice. I LOVE playing The Cure live and watching people’s reactions as they realize that that big voice is coming out of a 5’1” chick with a keyboard she bought on Craig’s list.

LYRICS:

Verse 1: I’m always angry, but I’m still funny.
I love to fight, but I hate not winning.
I’m everything you’re not,
But you still want what…

6. Here's to My

INTRODUCTION:

I started writing music in 8th grade. And since 8th grade, I've dreamt of my first album being titled Here’s to My, after the very first song I wrote. EVER. The song is about becoming a rockstar, breaking barriers, and doing what I love - singing. The piano in the lyrics is my parent's piano, on which I learned to play. It's got a broken soundboard, missing keys, it's held level by a couple of books, but it's where it all started. And if that doesn't deserve a song, I don't know what does! I…

7. Standing Still

INTRODUCTION:
The bridge of Standing Still was originally the bridge of a different song, but I didn’t think it matched the overall feeling of the other song. So I stole it from the original, and wrote a whole new song to go around it. The idea is that someone is frozen right on the edge of falling for someone, but they aren’t sure if that’s what they want. Because falling in love can be scary!

LYRICS:

Verse 1: You, you think you know me. You want to hold me,
But I’m biting my tongue.
You, you could be…

8. Rock Me

INTRODUCTION:
For the most part, I’m a homebody, who would rather have a movie marathon on the couch than hit the clubs. But every now and then, those trouble making moods hit me, and I leave the sweatpants behind to get a little wild. I grew up listening to rock and roll, what can I say?! it’s in my blood!

LYRICS:

Verse 1: Gotta get out, gotta let go.
Gotta get loud, gotta find a new hello.
Gotta get wild, gotta let loose,
‘Cause I, I gotta rock with you.

CHORUS: Wanna get down tonight, wanna get dirty.
Wanna…

9. Turn This Around

INTRODUCTION:
I have anxiety. It has affected me for the better part of my life without even realizing it. After moving to a different state and becoming a full time musician, stress started to get the best of me. I felt very discouraged about pursuing my music, and I was losing sight of all the stuff worth fighting for. When I started to doubt something that I’ve wanted for as long as I can remember, it was a wake up call. I made A LOT of changes in my life. Today, anxiety and depression no longer control…

10. Somebody

INTRODUCTION:
Have you ever felt so bored, or hurt, or lonely, that you wanted to feel anything, even if it meant feeling pain? That you just wanted SOMEONE, even if it wasn’t Mr. Right? Maybe it’s just me, but Somebody is about that.

LYRICS:

Verse 1: Same old, same old, if you ask how I’m doing today.
You already know, I’ve nothing new to say.
But I’m getting tired of this routine, day after day, I feel nothing
New anymore, and it’s gotta change. Oh I’m dying for something, even if it’s painful.

CHORUS: I’m…

11. Dreaming of You

INTRODUCTION:
I'm generally an upbeat person with a big mouth, and my music reflects that. Dreaming of You was out of my comfort zone of loud songs and big build ups, but the kind of love I wanted to illustrate wasn’t loud or crazy. It’s a constant calm even in the middle of a storm, it’s a safe feeling, almost like home, and it’s like being in the middle of a beautiful dream, but that dream is actually my life. I am so grateful to have found the love of my life; A man who stands by me no matter what…

12. Proud

INTRODUCTION:
A lot of my songs I write from experience… Heartbreak, music, seeing the world, friendship, and especially love. A lot of my songs write themselves though, and have absolutely nothing to do with my life or current situation. As a writer and a musician, I pride myself on being able to add emotions I haven’t ever, or don’t regularly feel to a song. One of my favorite things about songwriting, is the ability to tell stories. Proud is about being willing to do anything to live up to someone’s…

13. Times Are Changing

INTRODUCTION:
It took me a very long time to find my musical self. I always loved to stand out, but a lot of the time, I wrote what I thought other people wanted to hear. Ya know, the stuff you hear 800 times a day on the radio. It wasn’t until very recently that I came into my own music. After years of people telling me that my music was too “showtune-y”, I made it MORE showtune-y. And I fell even MORE in love with songwriting. I grew up doing musical theatre, and I’m proud of my newly found…

14. Slow Down

INTRODUCTION:
I am so lucky to be a musician, and I’m especially lucky to travel the country and world to share my music. Growing up in a small town on the edge of Rochester, I've always dreamt big. I wanted to get out, see the world, and do everything I possibly could. Slow Down is about not missing a single moment.

LYRICS:

I, I, I, I

Verse 1: I can’t stay in this town.
I can’t slow myself down.
I won’t revolve around you.
I’d rather live, and you’d rather drown.

CHORUS: Hearts move faster than the speed of…

15. Tonight

INTRODUCTION:
I finish every original show with this song, because it’s my mom’s favorite. I wouldn’t be anywhere at all, let alone releasing an album of songs I wrote, if it weren’t for my amazing mother and her endless amounts of love and support. Even though we didn't always agree while I was growing up, I wouldn’t trade her for anything. I thought it was fitting to end my very first CD with Tonight, in honor of her.

LYRICS:

Verse 1: It’s like pure evil is taking over me,
I’m doing things I shouldn’t be.
I…

+ Just Go

INTRODUCTION:

I released Just Go in December of 2014 (2 years before Here's to My). It was the product of a Kickstarter project, and the amazing Sam Polizzi recorded it and turned into a masterpiece. I wrote the song when I first started dating my boyfriend, kind of assuming the worst of our relationship based on previous bad luck. Thankfully, he's still around and I got an awesome song out of it. The production of this song really helped me realize my showtunes roots, and helped me to embrace the musical…Read more

Original Here's to My Pictures

Way back when I started writing music, I had this crazy dream that I was going to name my first album Here's to My, after the first song I ever wrote. It's been a while since those days, but I don't give up on dreams very easily. While these probably aren't my finest photographs, they're proof that music is my true passion. Also proof that you shouldn't leave overly dramatic teenagers alone with a camera and photoshop.
