6. Here's to My

INTRODUCTION:

I started writing music in 8th grade. And since 8th grade, I've dreamt of my first album being titled Here’s to My, after the very first song I wrote. EVER. The song is about becoming a rockstar, breaking barriers, and doing what I love - singing. The piano in the lyrics is my parent's piano, on which I learned to play. It's got a broken soundboard, missing keys, it's held level by a couple of books, but it's where it all started. And if that doesn't deserve a song, I don't know what does! I like to think that my songwriting has come a long way since then, but naming my first album Here's to My has been my vision for as long as I’ve been writing music. It's an important piece of me, and the name stuck. It symbolizes my musical goals, and the moment I realized that this is what I want to do.

LYRICS:

Verse 1: Maybe someday I’ll make it big.
Maybe I’ll actually get to sing,
Where people will want to hear,
What I want them to hear.

CHORUS: Here’s to my out of tune piano.
That didn’t get me anywhere,
It didn’t get me anywhere but here.
Live life like it’s a dare.

Verse 2: Open up to the noise and let go.
Nothing’s missing and tonight is so
Here and now, clear and bright.
We can win any fight.

Verse 3: Look into my eyes and tell me,
That I’m not real enough for this.
Because you know I can be,
You know that I can be.

CHORUS: Here’s to my out of tune piano.
That didn’t get me anywhere,
It didn’t get me anywhere but here.
Live life like it’s a dare.

Bridge: I want to be on the stage.
I want to taste the fame.
I want to break out of this cage.
You won’t forget my name.

CHORUS: Here’s to my out of tune piano.
That didn’t get me anywhere,
It didn’t get me anywhere but here.
Live life like it’s a dare.
‘Cause it’s a dare.

LYRIC ANALYSIS:

Maybe someday I’ll make it big. - I was dreaming big from the very beginning.
Maybe I’ll actually get to sing,
Where people will want to hear,
What I want them to hear. - As in ,people will voluntarily choose to listen to my music.

Here’s to my out of tune piano. - THE out of tune piano.
That didn’t get me anywhere, - wait for it...
It didn’t get me anywhere but here. - "Anywhere but here." In my mind, here was a sold out stadium with millions of adoring fans, but it could really be anywhere. Even the tiny coffeeshops and bars I love to play.
Live life like it’s a dare. - Totally random line, but I like it because you should live life like it's a dare.

Open up to the noise and let go.
Nothing’s missing and tonight is so
Here and now, clear and bright.
We can win any fight. - Let's do this, it's go time.

Look into my eyes and tell me,
That I’m not real enough for this.
Because you know I can be,
You know that I can be. - I got this!

Here’s to my out of tune piano.
That didn’t get me anywhere,
It didn’t get me anywhere but here.
Live life like it’s a dare.

I want to be on the stage.
I want to taste the fame. - Truth.
I want to break out of this cage.
You won’t forget my name.

Here’s to my out of tune piano.
That didn’t get me anywhere,
It didn’t get me anywhere but here.
Live life like it’s a dare.
‘Cause it’s a dare.
